David Adelsheim and his wife at the time, Ginny, invited all their friends to come to their nacent vineyard on April 20, 1974 to help them plant their first large block of Pinot noir. Over the course of a long morning, all 2.35 acres were planted with young vines. About half were Pommard clone; the other half, well, we have no idea. Suffice it to say that, as these vines matured, the wines produced from them turned out to be completely unique. Their wild, red cherry and white spice nose and exceptionally smooth tannins are unlike any other Pinot noir wine produced in the world. And these wines seem to age forever. Need proof? Try the first wine produced from the 1974 planting when you visit us. This lot of magnums from nine of the best vintages of the last two decades has never been available anywhere and will only be sold at this auction.
The winning bidder and party (up to three more people) will be invited to come to our winery for a private tasting with winemaker Gina Hennen, focused on our Quarter Mile Lane Vineyard. Then that bidder and party will be invited to join winery founder David Adelsheim for at dinner at his home in the Quarter Mile Lane Vineyard. If the bidder and party need accommodations, the guest suites at Quarter Mile Lane will be available for their use. Please plan to visit us within within 12 months of this auction. If the bidder cannot come to the Willamette Valley, we will create a virtual event to discuss the wines, the vineyard and its history.
