It’s been more than 150 years since founder Jacob Beringer first set sail from Germany to establish his iconic winery in Napa Valley in 1868. The history of this vaunted winery has come full circle as Jacob’s great-great-grandson, Mark Beringer, now stewards the winemaking process.
In between, some highly notable winemakers have passed through the caves, and your lot features three great vintages of Beringer Vineyards Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon made by two of them.
Beringer’s Private Reserve represents the pinnacle of the winery’s portfolio. Former chief winemakers Myron Nightingale and Ed Sbragia created the Private Reserve program in 1977 with the goal of crafting Napa’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon.
As the winning bidder, you’ll enjoy an historic trio of 3-liters of this Private Reserve, crafted three decades apart, including the 1987 edition—Ed’s favorite vintage.
Plus, you will receive six standard bottles of single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from Steinhauer Ranch, not normally available on the market. Renamed in 2003 to honor the winery’s long-time vineyard manager, Bob Steinhauer, this vineyard lies at about 1,800 feet in elevation. When Beringer first planted the vineyard, the distinctive character of the grapes was immediately evident, and it was selected as a regular part of the Private Reserve blend beginning with the 1993 vintage.
