The Cellar Crawl was founded in 1997 by a group of friends from six of Oregon's premier wineries: Ken Wright of Ken Wright Cellars, Mike Etzel of Beaux Frères, Ted Casteel and Terry Casteel (succeeded by Ben Casteel in 2006) of Bethel Heights Vineyard, Steve Doerner of Cristom Vineyards, Lynn Penner-Ash of Penner-Ash Wine Cellars, and Laurent Montalieu of Soléna Estate.

They were brought together by comradeship, curiosity and an abiding love for Pinot Noir. Continuing the Oregon wine community’s tradition of collaboration, of sharing experience and knowledge, these friends have carried on many experiments together over the last two decades. In 2015 this involved trading fruit among the six winemakers to explore the relative impact of vineyard site and winemaking process on the expression of wine. Can we answer the question: Which has the greatest impact, the land or the hand?

The 2015 Cellar Crawl Collection includes 18 distinct single-vineyard Pinot Noir bottlings. Working in two groups, each took on identical allotments of fruit from three of each other’s vineyard sources. This Collection showcases six individual winemaking approaches as a lens into the landscape of these six unique sites.

Enjoy a private seated tasting of Bethel Heights very limited edition "Beyond the Blocks” wines, paired with small bites prepared with local, seasonal, fresh ingredients through four small plate courses from the Bethel Heights Kitchen. As you explore the wines, your host will walk you through the evolution of terroir expression at Bethel Heights Vineyard through two generations of Casteel family winemakers.
