Mark and Pattie Bjornson moved to Oregon in 2005. Within months they purchased land in the Eola-Amity Hills and set to work planting a vineyard, naming their vineyard blocks after their four children. Before the current winery was built, they licensed their barn and began making commercial wine in 2012. Their first lot, (of which 8 bottles remain), was appropriately named after their winery license number BW #21003; and is a co-fermentation of all the clones of Pinot noir growing in their vineyard. The 2013 Isabel, named after Mark's maternal grandmother, was sourced from Claire's block, clones 667 and 115 of Pinot noir. Isabel was an award-winning pie maker, and this wine reminds us of a freshly baked pie. The 2014 Art, was Mark's maternal grandfather, (married to Isabel) who farmed on the prairies of North Dakota. Art is our most rustic bottling, bold, intense, with a touch of earthiness. The 2015 Magnus, Mark's paternal grandfather, is our most opulent Pinot noir, delivering a beautiful complex array of dark fruits, structured tannins, and balanced acidity for a mile-long finish. The 2016 Edward is named after Pattie's paternal grandfather, who was a quiet but intense, dependable man. The Edward has bright red fruit, is a classic representation of Oregon Pinot noir, and is dependably one of our most acclaimed Pinot noirs. Finally, the 2017 Margaret Chardonnay, named after Pattie's maternal grandmother, is to-date the only vintage of Bjornson chardonnay worthy of the portrait-series bottling. Bright acidity, complex fruit and nuttiness are suspended on a brilliant focused finish.
