The Spice of Life, Part II, New York, October 14 - 25

Once a season a collection comes along, the sheer breadth and depth of which makes your palate pop. This is part of that collection. When Zachys first started discussing the potential of an auction with the consignor, we were talking about a few cases. In the end, though, with the exception of a couple of hundred cases the consignor will keep to enjoy over the years, Zachys is selling the bulk of this collection. That includes the offering before you here, a large retail offering, and a sizeable section in Fine & Rare Wines & Spirits and The X Factor: those are the three parts to this collection.
What you see here is the result of years of work, dozens of mailing lists, and a focus on the best Cabernet in the world. There are the major California producers, as well as some you see less frequently. There are also top Bordeaux, at a time when mature Bordeaux is more in-demand than ever. It is absolutely essential that you peruse the live sale portion, and the retail offering in order to truly understand this collector’s palate and vision. Contact Peter at PMessa@zachys.com to see the retail inventory.
The vast majority of the wines in the collection, all but maybe 25 cases, were stored at the best professional wine storage in the NYC metro area. The balance, the 25 cases, were stored in a beautiful, custom built wine cellar in the owner’s home in Connecticut and removed by Zachys’ lead Specialists for this auction. You have found the owner at a time of downsizing, and his decision to sell the bulk of his collection is your gain! Bid with confidence.
