This auction has so, so many gems. There’s Allemand, Vatan, and Accomasso. There is a slew of d’Auvenay, Bizot, Leroy and Jayer. Wines direct from Charles Hiedsieck back to 1971. Of course, there is DRC, Rousseau, Roumier, Coche-Dury and Mugnier. But without a question, the highlight of this auction is the methuselahs of DRC. Starting on lot 299, prepare to feast your eyes. These eight methuselahs of DRC, along with a methuselah of Dujac Clos de la Roche, come from a major West Coast collection with provenance traceable directly to DRC’s official American importer, Wilson Daniels. DRC stopped producing 3L and 6L bottles after the 2008 vintage. Of particular jaw-dropping rarity is the methuselah of Romanée-Conti 1991. As a further indication of rarity, no methuselah of La Tâche 1995 or Romanée-Conti 1989 have traded at auction for the last nine years, nor Romanée-Conti 1994 for thirteen. All of these bottles have low numbers, of course, including #000001 and #000002. Amazing. In sum, pay attention not just to this auction but to the Zachys calendar: we’ve got a lot going on.
