The first tranche of Mike Kittredge’s cellar was offered in March of 2019 to great acclaim; the offering here, which represents the entirety of the Kittredge wine collection, is reflective of his interests. This section is followed by Cornerstone II, a sequel to the first offering from eighteen months ago, which more accurately reflects the composition of the collection as a whole.
Rare Wine from the Estate of Mike Kittredge
All of the great wines of the world are represented: Port, Californian classics,
Madeira, Yquem, Barolo and Barbaresco. But it’s the Bordeaux that is most
impressive. All the best producers are accounted for, but it’s the sheer depth
that is the most exciting. Over 300 bottles of Lafite alone back to the ’82
vintage and long before. A vertical of Latour back to 1959, and the legendary
1990 and 2000 vintages. Not to mention over 1,300 bottles of Mouton in
imperials, double magnums, and halfs, including the stellar showings of 1982,
1986 and 2000. Tasting bottles from this cellar have been immaculate. Perfect
storage, as well as lying untouched for decades puts this as one of the truly
great New England cellars; and we are thrilled to bring it to you.
This cellar came to Zachys through Vinolytics, which had the great pleasure of working with Mike Kittredge, his family and advisors, over the past five years. Vinolytics placed Mike's wines on their proprietary software and when the time came to value the wines the real-time valuation was available at the touch of a button.
The Cornerstone Collection II
There are very few collections in the world to compare with
the breadth, depth, and quality of Cornerstone. Eighteen months ago, Zachys
hosted the first single owner auction of wines from the Cornerstone Collection.
All three thousand bottles were Burgundy and the sale was a resounding
success.
This offering, “Cornerstone II,” more accurately reflects
the composition of the collection as a whole. While Burgundy leads, the
selection of Bordeaux, Italian, Champagne, Rhone, and California wine is
breathtaking in its quality and depth of vintages. It is a cross section
of an edifice of many tens of thousands of bottles carefully and passionately
collected over the last quarter century. Our collector friend continues an
active program of purchasing, primarily from reliable trade sources with whom
he has established long term relationships, and in many instances, the domains
and wineries themselves. As he has many years of active collecting ahead, and
many tastings still to organize, he has chosen to engage in selective pruning
to allow the Cornerstone Collection to continue to grow with each new vintage
