All of the wines we produce at Antica Terra are the product of a process of the rarest kind: blending blind.
We approach winemaking with the goal of making the most beautiful wines that are possible in any given vintage. Our approach eschews dogma and trend, refuses to call decisions out in advance, and strips away bias in the blending process.
What that means is that we take a sample from every single barrel of, in this case, Pinot noir in the cellar, and we put them into numbered sample bottles. We move through these blind samples and start putting things together and taking them apart in every different way we can think of, looking for harmonies that exist in the cellar, for those places where we can find the ignition of beauty.
We don’t require ourselves to make any number of wines or to make a certain volume. There’s no volume that’s too small for us to be able to do something with it. We free ourselves from restrictions of sales, and relationships with our customers, distributors, and importers to just look for the highest possible answer and trust that if we stick really close to beauty, that all the rest of the puzzles will solve themselves.
This lot is the opportunity to blend a custom cuvée under our winemaker, Maggie Harrison’s, tutelage. Either one on one, or with a group of friends, collectively or in competition.
The auction winner will receive five (5) cases of their bespoke cuvée custom bottled in the format of their choice (750mL, Magnum, or Double Magnum). The winner will join winemaker, Maggie Harrison for an interactive seminar to learn how to blend.
If virtual, participants will receive a shipment of five barrel samples from the same Antica Terra barrels we use to make our wines, as well as everything else needed to create a personal winemaking tour de force. Two Blending Kits are included in the lot; more are available for purchase should the Zoom party expand.
If the winner prefers to attend the seminar at our winery, we are happy to host in-person.
