The Brittan Vineyard is only 12 miles from the heart of downtown McMinnville, but feels worlds away. With its remote, undulating, and arid hills, the vineyard produces Pinot noir distinctive to the Brittan Vineyard: earth driven, dark fruited, and savory.
The original 18 acres were planted in 2001, but due to the challenging nature of this site and limited topsoil, only eight acres survived. Since 2004 when Robert and Ellen purchased the vineyard, it has been an ongoing rehabilitation project: replanting, retraining, and learning the unique landscape that has become Brittan Vineyard.
With 30 acres now under vine, Robert and Ellen reside at the vineyard and the intense observation continues. Additional blocks of Chardonnay, heritage Pinot noir selections, and Rhône varietals have all been planted with the intention, knowledge and excitement that only Robert can bring to his vines and homestead.
This special lot is a six-vintage magnum vertical (2014 - 2019) of our Cygnus Block Pinot Noir, signed by owner/winemaker Robert Brittan. The three-acre, east facing Cygnus Block was planted in 2008 to the low-yielding Swan Selection of Pinot noir (the only single-selection block on the property). Unlike the rest of the vineyard, rows here are planted in an east/west orientation giving the block a different exposure to the sun and reducing the influence of the Van Duzer winds, which are channeled through the rows instead of across them. This block’s unique aspect, orientation, and selection create fresh, balanced, seamless wines brimming with red fruits.
Please note, we are only able to ship to states in which we hold a license. We will work with the winning bidder to arrange fulfillment.
The lot winner may join owner/winemaker Robert Brittan for a complete tasting of our three expressive, terroir-driven single block Pinot noirs from the 2018 vintage. Tasting to be conducted either in-person at our winery in McMinnville or virtually via Zoom with a set of bottles provided and shipped by the winery.
In addition to the Signed Cygnus Block Magnum Vertical and winemaker-guided single-block tasting, the winning bidder will receive a one-year membership in our Connoisseur Club. As a member, you will receive three 6-bottle shipments which will include our three Estate wines (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah) and four single-block Pinot noirs, along with access to limited and library releases and discounts on additional purchases.
