It is here at last: The Vault IV. Over the past half-decade the name “The Vault” has become synonymous with quality. From Beijing to Hong Kong, from Stockholm to Copenhagen, from New York to Los Angeles, as bottles are opened at Michelin 3-starred restaurants, at celebrations, at quiet nights at home, the collective response has been unanimous. If you see that small, quarter-sized silver “ZACHYS THE VAULT” sticker on the back of a bottle of wine, you are in for a transportive experience.
The depth and breadth of wines in part IV of this offering is spectacular at every level. But it’s the Burgundy that will make you pause and take stock of exactly what you’re beholding. Roumier, Rousseau, Coche-Dury, Leflaive, Mugnier, Leroy, Mugneret-Gibourg, Ramonet, Raveneau and of course, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. And not just any DRC—one of the greatest collections of DRC ever. And the highlight among highlights is, without a doubt, lot 278: a six-magnum original wooden case of 1990 Romanée-Conti, bought on release by the current consignor and stored temperature-controlled professionally since. The lot was banded until just recently, when Zachys specialist opened it to confirm the contents. This lot will go down in history as one of the greatest cases of wine ever sold.
