The Yamazaki 55 is a blend of Mizunara matured whisky distilled in 1960 under the supervision of founder Shinjiro Torii (the name “Suntory” is a amalgamation of the English “sun” and an Anglicization of “Torii) masterfully blended with white oak matured whisky distilled in 1964 by fifth-generation Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo and third-generation Master Blender Shingo Torii.
The presentation of the bottle honors traditions from multiple disciplines rooted in Japanese culture. The word “Yamazaki” is engraved on the crystal bottle in calligraphy and gold dust and lacquer highlight the age statement. The bottle is topped in handmade Echizen washi paper and bound with a Kyo-kumihimo plaited cord from Kyoto. The bespoke box is hand made from native Japanese Mizunara wood, the same wood used to age some of the whisky and sealed with Suruga lacquer.
