We are continually seeking exceptional wines for our auctions. Here's how to begin:
Yes! Worn labels can often indicate that the wines have been stored in optimal damp conditions, which is appealing to buyers.
While we do not offer this as a standard service, we are happy to discuss options with you. Please call us at +1 914 448 3026 to speak with a specialist.
Here's how to join the bidding:
You can easily monitor the status of your absentee bids within the 'My Items' section of our website while logged into your account. This page provides a clear summary of:
Conveniently, you can adjust your current bids or place new bids on watched lots directly from the 'My Items' page. For further details on a specific lot, simply click on it to return to the Lot Details page.
Upon the auction's closing, invoices will be promptly emailed to successful bidders once the results have been confirmed.
Not necessarily! If you don't know your client number or this is your first-time bidding with Zachys, don't worry. We can easily register you as a new client. Just make sure to provide your billing and shipping addresses, telephone numbers, and valid credit card information on the form.
Our bidding system is designed for clarity. Increments are as follows, depending on the price:
$0-100: Increases by $10
$100-500: Increases by $20
$500-1,000: Increases by $50
$1,000-2,000: Increases by $100
$2,000-5,000: Increases by $200
$5,000-10,000: Increases by $500
$10,000-20,000: Increases by $1,000
$20,000+: Increases by $2,000
Your ‘Max Bid’ represents the highest amount you are willing to pay. Our system will automatically bid on your behalf up to that amount, helping to ensure you don't miss out on a desired bottle if other bidders are interested in the same lot. If someone outbids your Max Bid, you'll receive an email alert. This gives you the chance to jump back in and increase your bid if you'd like. You have complete control and can increase your Max Bid or place new bids at any time before the auction closes.
The exact date and time the auction closes are clearly displayed on the bidding pages. You have the flexibility to submit bids at any point from when the auction opens until it officially closes.
We offer several search methods. You may search by lot number, keyword, region, type, size, vintage, packaging, and current bid amount. A downloadable auction spreadsheet is also available on the auction page, providing a full list of wines in the sale.
Catalogs for our upcoming auctions are available in several ways: download a free PDF instantly from our website or send us an email at auction@zachys.com with your name and mailing address.
Our specialists carefully determine estimate values based on extensive research, including current market value, retail value, release price, and recent auction prices. These estimates serve as a guide; the ultimate selling price is determined live during the auction.
These assessments provide crucial information about the condition of the wine you're considering. Here's a quick guide:

Reserve: A confidential agreed upon between Zachys and the consignor at or below the low estimate. If a bid does not meet the reserve, the low will not sell.
Hammer price: The price at which a lot sells during the auction. The end buyer will then receive an invoice that includes the buyer’s premium of 25% (as of April 2024). For example, if a bidder wines a lot at $100, he or she will receive an invoice of $125 (plus tax).
Lot: Zachys Auctions sells wine by the “lot” which is a grouping of wines. A lot could be one wine, a case of the same wine, or mixed wines.
Estimate: The estimate listed in the catalog is reflective of our Specialists’ view of the potential selling price of the wine. It is based on research of past sales and opinion however, it is only an estimate and lots often sell above or below.
Commission Bidder/Absentee bidder: Sometimes the auctioneer will refer to the absentee or commission bidder when you are bidding in a live auction. This is a client who has left an absentee bid prior to the auction, and the auctioneer will execute this bid in response to your bids.
Absentee bid: You may leave bids on a lot up until the auctioneer opens the lot in a live auction, or the lot closes in a timed auction. It’s important to know that your maximum bid will only be executed in response to other bids. For example, if the reserve is $1000 and you bid $9000, and there are no other bids on the lot, you will win the lot for $1000. If there is a bid for $5,000, you will win the lot for $5500.
Buyer premium: Zachys charges a 25% buyer’s premium, which is the industry standard. This percentage is added on to the “hammer price,” or price at which the lot sells in the auction.
