Our Online Only sales are usually open for about two weeks, and we use something called absentee bidding. This just means you can place your max bid anytime during that period. We'll let you know if you're winning, or if someone bids more than you. If your bid is the highest when the sale ends, you win the lot!
These sales also have a smart feature called a staggered close. This means that starting from the beginning of the closing period(9pm EDT), 10 lots will close every minute. An easy way to keep track of the amount of time a lot has left open is to reference the clock in the right-hand corner. This way you can keep an eye on the items you're bidding on and adjust your strategy as other lots close.
Before our Live Auctions kick off, there's usually a three-week window for you to browse all the amazing items and place your initial bids – this is called absentee bidding. Absentee bidding continues up until the auctioneer opens bidding on the lot you are interested in during the Live Auction. So, you'll have to wait until the very end of the sale to find out if your absentee bid was the winner. Exciting, right? During this period, we'll also let you know if someone outbids you on something you want.
Throughout the Live Auction each item gets its moment in the spotlight, giving you a chance to jump in and bid against others in real-time. If you placed an absentee bid and no one tops it, congrats – you win! Of course, you can also win by placing the highest bid during the Live Auction itself. Lots of chances to win something special!
Our Online Only sales also have a super handy feature called extended bidding. To make things fair and exciting, if someone bids in the very last 5 minutes of an item's closing time (remember, closing times are staggered), we'll add another 5 minutes to the clock. This way, if you get outbid at the last second, you get a chance to jump back in and compete. This isn't just a one-time thing – every bid in that final 5-minute window adds another 5 minutes, leading to some thrilling bidding battles!
When you place a "max bid," you're telling us the highest amount you're willing to pay for an item. If someone else bids against you and their bid is lower than your max bid, we'll automatically bid for you at the next available increment. It's just like placing a regular bid, but you don't have to be there to do it. If someone else's max bid is higher than yours, you'll get an outbid notification, just like with a regular bid. Our system will only execute your max bid in response to other bidders. So there is always a chance you will win your lot for less than your max.
